Precision farming is a hot field for international agricultural research in recent years,and is of important scientific value and practical significance for digital farming and modern agriculture.Guided by the principle of precision farming,based on knowledge model for crop management,and combined with technologies of computer,space information management and data communication,stand-alone edition(KMPSPF) and Web Services edition(KMPSPFWS) of knowledge model-based portable system for precision farming were established in the present study.The KMPSPF and KMPSPFWS provide the intelligent,visualized and portable information service for agricultural producers,managers and technical personnels. The system can provide precision farming scheme at the regional scale or the field scale.The construction of this system helps to provide a new carrier for precision farming,and a new approach to implementing portable information system for agriculture.On the basis of crop management knowledge model,a model class library was constructed by applying the system analysis principle and software development technology.By further using PDA technology,embedded-GIS technology,GPS technology,stand-alone edition of knowledge model-based portable system for precision farming(KMPSPF) was established.The KMPSPF not only has the precision design features of crop management knowledge model,but also has the functions of location and navigation,and farmland information collection.Then,web services edition of knowledge model-based portable system for precision farming (KMPSPFWS) was further established by applying web services technology.By coupling decision-making features of crop management knowledge model and web services,the KMPSPFWS has realized not only all the features of the KMPSPF,but also the functions of real-time data collection and message passing.Adopting the close integration,the knowledge model for crop management and embedded-GIS share a common interface in order to transfer attribute data and spatial data directly.Customized for embedded devices,eHotGIS has a compact structure, and is very suitable for use of PDA devices.So this framework was applied in KMPSPF and KMPSPFWS.Smart Device Framework of OpenNETCF contains a GPS-related class library,and is very easy to communicate with GPS module and extract position data.OpenNETCF was used for GPS communication and data-processing,so as to enhance development efficiency.By using Microsoft Visual C#,Web Services was designed on the platform of Microsoft Visual Studio.NET.Case studies on the system with the datasets in Wujang city of Jiangsu province indicated that the design idea and structure framework of system accorded with the development demand of precision farming system,and realized precise and information management of agricultural production.The system takes the advantages of simple operation and visual display.It can establish precision farming scheme on the basis of the specific conditions of regional climate and soil or farmland environment.The designed management scheme can help to optimize the use of agricultural inputs,and obtain maximum yield and benefits.
