A User-oriented Information Visualization Model Of Special News Text Sets

People need to grasp and make use of different kinds of information quickly and fully in the information society. As common information, news is an important way for people to understand changes of the surrounding environment. The emergence of network, on the one hand, has accelerated the speed of the update and dissemination of news; on the other hand, has a higher demand for people's ability to acquire and process the information. The visualization of special news text sets can show a great deal of information in an intuitive, easy-to-understand way to save people's reading time. And it is convenient for people to access to information, discover the hidden information which is deep-seated in the news, and so as to conducive to make use of information.From the information needs of users and the characteristics of news and based on the concept hierarchy theory, first, we define the concept and the granularity of information entity and propose the approaches to select information entities which form the information entity database. Based on the user's actual information needs, we identify the information entities of every news text from the information entity database. Then from the system point of view, drawing the idea of corporative broad networks, we abstract the different kinds of associations among information entities as corporative association and measured the corporative association by statistical methods. In accordance with the information visualization reference model which is proposed by card et al. in 1999, we construct the concept and formalization models of information visualization of special news text sets and analyze the features of information entity network. Finally, we study the Wenchuan earthquake reconstruction news set on Sina as an example to realize the information visualization and analysis the results.The constructed information visualization model analyzes the user's personalized information needs as well as the features of information in special news text sets. It can not only show the main information of news text set in an intuitive, easy-understanding way, but also meet the user's personalized information needs.
