Egg-shaped digester (ESD), a new type of structure, has a broad applied prospect. However, because of its special structure type, there are still many problems in the actual engineering. The hydrodynamic pressure distribution of the ESD is particularly difficult to definite and its calculation formula is still not given in the code. Therefore, in this paper the modeling and calculation of the ESD fluid-solid interaction (FSI) system finite element are the main task and attempting to present the hydrodynamic pressure formula special for the ESD is also a significant part.Firstly, as the FSI computational capabilities and theories are slightly different among the finite element soft wares, the ANSYS and ADINA are selected simultaneously to create several ESD finite element models on one engineering project. And the dynamic computation of the models is carried out under the EL Centro wave and Tianjin wave. Then the results of hydrodynamic pressure distribution from different models and seismic wave are compared and indicate that the hydrodynamic pressure distribution of ESD is greatly influential by the factors such as the shape type of the structure and the position in height.Secondly, after comprehensively considering the pre-post processing capability and the computing speed of ANSYS and ADINA, the former is selected to carry out the further dynamic analysis with the rare intensity level of earthquake. Then on the basis of the cylindrical tank hydrodynamic pressure formula, the ESD hydrodynamic pressure formula which may be helpful for the designing is presented by analyzing on the numerical hydrodynamic pressure results from ESD finite element model. And this formula is checked in an actual project that proves the applicability in ESD design.Finally, ESD calculation software is developed. This software is with the APDL in ANSYS and combined with the powerful graphic interface processing function in Visual Basic6.0. It improves the accuracy and efficiency in ESD design.
