Radiation pattern of the array antenna depends on the number of the elements, the elements'positions and weight coefficients. Control of the three factors can change the characteristic of the radiation field. The synthesis of array pattern is realized through using one or more methods for antenna system design, enabling the system to produce required pattern. How to optimize the factors which affect the array pattern is discussed in this paper. Firstly, the principle of antenna theory and simulated annealing (SA) al-gorithm are introduced. Then, two methods of pattern synthesis are given:In order to lower the side-lobe of unequally-spaced sparse array, which has 25 elements over an aperture of 50λwith a fixed antenna number and a constant array aperture, a hybrid algorithm is presented: simulate annealing (SA) algorithm and con-vex optimization are combined to optimize the elements'positions and weight coeffi-cients. The resulted side-lobe is lower than those reported in the literature and the computation quantity is reduced.A method to optimize the elements'positions and weight coefficients of the new style radar-MIMO radar, which is appeared recent years, is proposed in this paper. This method makes use of the trait that MIMO radar's array pattern is equal to the product of transmitting and receiving array pattern. This method greatly reduced the computation quantity compared with the way that optimizing MIMO radar array pattern directly. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of this method.
