Image registration, which is a fundamental problem in image procession, is a process to match two or more images in the same scene. Those images are taken at different sensors, different viewpoints, different times or different conditions. Image registration technique has been used in many fields, like computer vision, medical diagnosis and treatment, remote sensing, image reconstruction and image mosaic etc.The transform domain-based approach is one of the most common methods. The phase correlation algorithm has been studied about the conventional FFT further. Combining the speculative knowledge about quaternion, we use the new quaternion phase correlation in the color image registration, and propose a new algorithm to resolve the problem about sub-pixel. The registration results indicate the rationality and the correctness of this new method. Also, as another common method, the advantage of the feature-based approach is its ability of exacting the typical information and speeding up the computer process. In the paper, the popular SIFT is further researched and improved, two new feature descriptions-CISFT and SURF are used in image registration. They have many advantages, like scale invariant, rotation invariant, robust and so on. Using PC to achieve those algorithms, the simulations state clearly that the two methods not only can satisfy the precision, but also can implement the whole process faster. Further, they can meet the request of real-time.
