The automatic identification of modulation types has been applied to many fields such as signal identification, interference identification, radio interception, and electronic monitoring, etc.First in this paper, the basic principle of the common communication signals of analog modulation and digital modulation is analyzed on theories. Then we simulate and build the model of these communication signals by MATLAB.The method of feature Parameters extraction of the modulation signal which includes instantaneous amplitude, instantaneous phase, instantaneous frequency and the symbol rate of digital modulation signals are further analyzed. The six feature Parameters are studied between various types of the modulation signals. Based on which, aimed at analog and digital modulations, the flow diagram of automatic identification and the choice of the verdict threshold are discussed by using arithmetic for modulation style identification based on decision theoretic. The decision theoretic on which our arithmetic is based has some advantages as computational advantage and good identification effect.In the end, we design a hardware platform based on TI DSP (TMS320VC5409) which can realize the theory of the automatic identification of modulation. The hardware and software in this platform and some question we should notice are also described in detail.
