Progress in the art of computer science, communication and information theory has prompted the medical image development, research and application. Digital medical image has played as a significant role in hospital information, telemedicine and other applications.This paper gives a comprehensive study of the theory and algorithm of medical image compression and encoding technology. An embedded medicine image platform based on the BF561 is designed in this paper. There are lots of functions in the platform, such as transmitting medical image on the wireless network and displaying it, diagnosis with the wireless video conferencing, playing music and movie and so on. After designing the hardware and software, we realize and optimize image decompression on the BF561 based on lifting wavelet transform.Experiments show that of the image compression based on lifting wavelet transform can achieve high compression ratio, which greatly save storage space and reduce transmission time of the medical image on the network.As we can realize and optimize the arithmetic on the BF561, therefore, the platform is suitable for real-time distance medical service and medical image transmission based on wireless network. In addition, as the result of multi-resolution characteristic of wavelet, compressed stream can also have the hierarchical characteristics of grading image resolution and quality. These characteristics facilitate the realization of medical image stream transmission and the gradual resolution to the browser.
