In the research of digital image registration, the current ways can register input images which were misaligned by translation with no doubt. But it was usually failed to provide a robust estimation when there were large deformation among image pairs. So the log-polar model was introduced between the process of target detecting and registration. By using the log-polar mappings, The large deformation of scale and rotation can be recovered even when the image pairs are misaligned due to translation. Facing to practical instance, certain log-polar mapping and template matching method is introduced. By using this technique, the arithmetic becomes real-time while it is immune from scale and angle variation. All the arithmetic mentioned in this paper has been implemented on the hardware built by TI DSP and FPGA. The result shows that this arithmetic keeps high matching quality with any target rotation, and large scale change is tolerable, achieves the goals as desired.
