IEEE 802.16e is a broadband wireless access protocol. The support of QoS of 802.16e is mainly reflected in the physical layer and data link layer. The MAC layer of IEEE 802.16e configures a complete signaling system and for service flow and parameters; Also,it defines the QoS scheduling service types, the corresponding bandwidth request / distribution mechanisms. But there is no defination of admission control, QoS parameters mapping, congestion control, packet scheduling algorithms and a series of important issues. As a result, the presenting of a complete QoS mechanism base on existing protocol is a hotspot and is a necessary basis for large-scale commercial application. This thesis firstly introduced the 802.16 protocol family background, the course of development and technical characteristics; introduces the overall 802.16e the MAC layer protocol briefly and makes a detailed analysis of QoS mechanism of 802.16e, supported service types of 802.16e and bandwidth allocation. Then, base on the existing research results and the QoS framework of 802.16e, the thesis presents a new complete 802.16e QoS framework which includes the admission control module, congestion control module and packet scheduling module and presents an implementation of WiMAX scheduler. Finally, make tests on implemented system. The implementation of WiMAX scheduler is based on ZTE CBWA system. The results of tests demonstrate the validity of arithmetic from this thesis and the performance of system is improved.
