PET(Positron Emission Tomography)is one of the most important imaging tools in the field of medical imaging. From the level of molecular in living body, PET gives functional information about specific area of the body by three dimensional pictures. Specially, study and development on small animals' dual-head PET is the hot research area, this thesis primarily discusses automatic recognition of crystal region map, which concerns image-reconstruction. The techniques of processing this image are pilot studied in this dissertation. The main works are as follow:We developed an automatic position recognition method, implemented with a series of image processing algorithms, such as image segmentation, Mathematical Morphology etc. For the particularity of crystal region map, K-Means Clustering Algorithm is presented in this thesis, which excelled traditional image Segmentation algorithm. Furthermore, problems of the K-Means Clustering Algorithm and the effects of processing are presented. The method is given in the thesis. After the image segmentation, one series of filtering algorithms were used to remove the noise of the image. Finally, centroid method was used to complete the recognition of crystal region map.Based on the view of project-oriented, the algorithm is implemented with C++ programming language. In this thesis, the system function of crystal region map is designed. Consequently, some work about recognition of crystal region map has been accomplished, which is the basis of dual-head PET of high space resolution realization.
