The Numerical Simulation for casting was now one of the researching focuses in foundry. The Casting Material Database is one important module of Casting Numerical Simulation Software.The criterion for judging the capability of the database was firstly put forward based on the analysis for the databases embedded in the software accepted in the market, which includes data complement, data reliability, powerful manipulate function and smooth connection with the main module of software. On the basis of the present situation and in the perspective of the future, the Database Manage System with complete functions has been established according to the above judge criterion.Firstly, the system analysis and design of Casting Alloy Database System was done on the basis of the characteristic of cast alloy data, which including demand analysis, conceptual design, logical design and execution. In the step of demand analysis, the general objective was presented: the Database System should be used both as a sub-module of casting CAE software and an independent database system for foundry technology. Then the conceptual design, logical design and execution of the Database System were done according to the general objective.Secondly, all kinds of foundry material data were collected and arranged according to the demand of the database system analysis mentioned above, which included data of casting iron, casting steel, nonferrous casting alloy, etc. Data table structure was designed based on the development demand of our system and C++Builder Database.Finally, the functions of browsing, adding, deleting, modifying, querying and"coefficient of heat transfer self-matching"were realized by C++Builder software,"database module"and Structure Query Language. The"browsing function"and"querying function"is the difficulty and innovation of this dissertation. Browsing function includes treeview browsing combing with Pagecontrol switchover displaying. Querying function includes many querying methods for choosing, such as brand querying, component obscure querying, physical property parameters obscure querying, mechanical parameters obscure querying, national trademark querying and so on. All of them could provide the foundry engineer with good service.After finishing all the precious works, a relative integral Database Managerial System has been established successfully. The difference between database module embedded in casting numerical simulation software and our casting material database manage system was that the latter could either be used as an independent Database System by foundry engineers or be as one of the modules embedded in numerical software. Obviously, the data and functions of this database managerial system is much more than that of the general casting numerical simulation software.Database System has a widespread availability in casting field, which will be applied in the whole casting industry, and will bring us more society and economic benefits. This Database System research will make some contribution to its development.
