Currently, virtual reality technology is a research area that attracts much attention in the world; meanwhile the virtual studio technology is the research focus of the application of the virtual reality technology in the audio-visual field. It is generally accepted that"virtual studio is a studio technique that develops on the base of computer graphics and color keys of video frequency. It can integrate the camera-shot images with the computer-generated 3-D images real-timely to form a new kind of TV program production system."The limitations of Virtual Studio definition restrict the researches within the pre-production phases of TV programs.This paper has a different understanding of virtual studio which should be defined as the integration of studio sources by utilizing information technology tools such as computer, network, and communication etc in order to realize the digital reproduction of space structure, equipment and functions of the studio. Based on the re-interpretation of the definition of virtual studio, the experimental virtual studio lighting system is just a kind of"submerged"virtual studio situation constructed through virtual reality technology with the purpose of assisting the film and television lighting experimental course.Based on the research of relative techniques of virtual reality, and with the studio in Tianjin Enterprises Administration and Training Center as the practicality model, this thesis, applying the scheme of VRML in conjunction with Java, develops a virtual studio lighting experimental system which realizes the simulation and part of the interaction function in virtual studio. After analyzing the requirement of virtual studio lighting experimental system, the thesis makes a general design scheme, i.e. to carry on the modeling of the lighting equipment in the virtual studio by 3DS Max and VRMLPad. The thesis puts forward an improvement scheme from the perspective of scene optimization and file compression in order to resolve the contradiction between the lighting quality and the real-time of the system operation in order to solve the conflict between picture quality in virtual scene and real time system operation. Besides, the thesis also studies the interaction technology in virtual studio lighting experimental system and achieves the interaction of lighting equipment via the two interface modes of Java language and VRML.The testing of the systems proves that the system is featured with real time effectiveness, interaction, and good lighting effect. Users can not only review the virtual studio, but also do some simple interaction during the review.
