With the rapid socio-economic development, the exchanges and cooperation of all areas become more and more closely. The growing traffic problems can not been solved by the increase of the highway mileages, and people begin to explore the new methods of transportation management based on advanced science and technology. GIS-based transportation network analysis system with powerful graphics and spatial analysis functions can resolve the problems of traffic information effectively, such as transportation data query, storage, management, analysis and so on, which can guide the traffic. On the basis of studying the literature at home and abroad, this paper uses the methods of topology correcting and topology judging to resolve the topology integrity and consistency problems of the original feature class data. For the time complexity of the traditional path algorithms in the massive data processing, some practical approaches in the actual network analysis are proposed on Dijkstra algorithm and A* algorithm, which are validated by using the network data of Hangzhou. According to the currently popular technology of ComGIS, a transportation network analysis system is designed and implemented based on MapObjects components. The main work and contribution of the paper are as follows:Firstly, the research background and the research situation of related subjects are described, and then the main contents of research are presented.Secondly, the basic theories of Spatial Network Analysis and Graph are introduced for the characteristics of actual network, which provide the theoretical basis for data preprocessing and network analysis.Thirdly, for the topology integrity issues of original network data, the structural characteristics of urban network data are studied and analyzed, and the ArcGIS software is used to correct the topology. Since the Shapefile storage schema can't contain the topology structure, the methods of topology judging are designed and realized, which provide the data basis for network analysis.Fourthly, for the low efficiency of traditional path algorithms in the massive data processing, the practical approaches in the actual network analysis are studied on Dijkstra algorithm and A* algorithm, and the crucial problems are resolved, which are used to analyze the data and make some useful conclusions.Fifthly, an urban transportation network analysis system is developed in VC++ 6.0 based on ComGIS, which provides a user friendly interface and several spatial analysis functions, such as path analysis, barrier set, spatial measure, information query and so on.Finally, the research work in this paper is briefly summarized and some remarks on further improvement of the system are also presented.
