Along with the popularity of the Internet and technical development of peer-to-peer (P2P), the network users'demands of files sharing service are increaseing day by day. In order to share files between network users effectively and reliably, the author researched the files sharing system Gnutella thoroughly in the paper, and proposed a new P2P network architecture named G2. As a hybrid hierarchical P2P network architecture, G2 absorbs the merits of non-structured network and structured network, and converts the typical Gnutella to hierarchical network architecture. This architecture includes two layers in which the upper layer is an unstructured flooding network, and the lower layer is a centrilized server network. The author also researched the Gnutella network's mechanism of messaging and data transmiting, indicated these mechanisms' insufficiency, and improved them in G2. Finally, the author simulated the G2 and analysises the G2's performance. In fact, the result of analysis and simulation shows that the scalability and query efficiency of Gnutella overlay in G2 network model have been enhanced indeed.
