The key mechanisms and procedure of USB Communication Devices Class (CDC) Specification are analyzed in this thesis, and the framework and interface of Ethernet Networking Control Model (ECM) and Ethernet Emulation Model (EEM) in CDC are focused on yet. Based on the ECM and EEM of CDC, the virtual Ethernet network interface of USB can be applied to smart phone project, so it is the easy way to PAN (Personal Area Network). Comparing with physical Ethernet network interface, the characters of virtual Ethernet network interface are pointed too. With testing their performances,the important features on the Specification of USB CDC for the future research strategies and trends are given.The chapter one is preface. In the chapter a concise introduction is made to the background of this thesis.In the chapter 2, USB CDC Specification including ECM & EEM is analyzed in this thesis, based on understanding of USB Architecture.In the chapter 3, the principle of USB interface chip PXA27x and its USB device controller and the framework of Linux USB model are stressed. The realization of ECM and EEM are discussed in deals.In the chapter 4, the procedure of accessing the internet with the USB virtual Ethernet network interface from proxy in smartphone is described.That make it clear that USB virtual Ethernet network interface can be used for PAN.In the chapter 5, comparing with physical Ethernet network interface, the performance of USB virtual Ethernet network interface are given.
