This paper uses modulated scatterer system to measure microwave field with minimal disturbance. This method is especially adapt to measure magnitude and phase of microwave field close to antenna. So it can be used to measure radiation antenna's near-field. The precise measurement data can be useful for antenna design. Based on the near-field measurement, this paper gives the advantage of the modulated scatterer near-field measurement. This paper analyses the monostatic and biastatic operation through reciprocity principle and discusses three modulated scatterer techniques. This paper gives the structure of the modulated scatterer near-field measurement system in detail and designs the modulation circuit, and gives the method of demodulation and the performance parameters of the part of the system.. This paper also analyses the factors that affect the modulated scatterer near-field measurement system's accuracy, and the corresponding compensation is given, and designs the low-noise amplifier. In this paper, scattering probe use microstrip dipole antenna to design, its performances meet the basic requirements, and the actual testing is similar to the theoretical analysis.
