BCI(Brain Computer Interface) focuses on the study of the establishment of a communication channel between human brain and external devices through which information exchange takes place. The technology made its beginning in the 1990s and has become a hot research topic after 2000. BCI covers many fields, such as biology, medicine, computer and communication. It is an interdisciplinary research orientation. With the development of BCI, "Animal Soldiers" and "Insect Soldiers" have appeared one after another. Some assistant BCI diagnosis and treatment systems have been applied more and more in medical field.Our group is devoted to the research and development of EEG based BCI and I take charge of the study and design based on motor imagery. Therefore, pains will be taken to illustrate the following parts:Research on human brain, motor imagery and other EEGs. Human brain is the core of thought and is essential to the study of Brain Computer Interface. Motor imagery is more flexible to implement applications than other EEGs and has become the cutting edge research topic around the world. This paper studied the characteristics of EEG and did quantitative research on it when experimenters imagine the movements of their hands. Biological intelligence is a fresh research domain which integrates brain research and artificial intelligence and it will also integrate Brain Computer Interface in the near future. This paper introduced biological intelligence during our research and explores its influence in our work.Research on EEG signal processing algorithms. EEG implies human mind and deserves special and careful analysis based on its complexity and significance. This paper revealed several kinds of EEG signal processing algorithms and compared their difference, implemented a proper solution in the system.Design of Brain Computer Interface based on motor imagery. Considering the complexity and generalization of motor imagery, this paper analyzed system architecture and essential parts of BCI2000 and validated the feasibility of this system. According to the research situation of our group, we designed a set of motor imagery experiments and implemented the related Brain Computer Interface including hardware and software based on BCI2000.This paper integrates several technologies including motor imagery, signal processing algorithms and general Brain Computer Interface, analyzes its biological intelligence element, implements online Brain Computer Interface based on motor imagery, lays the foundation for oncoming application-oriented Brain Computer Interface, explores deeper understandings of human brain and intelligent systems.
