With the development of information technology, the awareness of security issues is heightened that has led to a higher demand for secure and convenient individual identification technology. However, traditional identification technology is inherently insecure and cannot meet current requirement that leads to a massive rise in the interest for biometric personal identification. Compared with other biometric features, iris patterns are more stable and reliable. Furthermore, iris recognition systems can be non-invasive to their users. So the study of iris identification is more and more attracting some people's attention.Firstly, the article discusses and summarizes the particular advantage of iris for recognition. And every parts of iris recognition system are introduced, where extracting and matching features are keys. Then the preprocessing of iris image is analyzed, extracting and matching technology are mainly studied. Consult many recognition algorithms all over the world and analyzed the characteristic of texture image. The matching method based on normalized correlation, gray surface matching,phase-based image matching, invariable moment, and PCA.When people open their eyes normally, the regions of iris will be covered by eyelids and eyelashes. In this paper , we investigate the performance of the use of a partial iris for recognition by using normalized correlation, principal components analysis and phase-based image matching method in different iris image databases. The experiment results show that the inner rings of the iris over 37.5% of iris pattern exposure, or the angle of the sector exposed over 70 degree would be necessary for enough information in human verification. The results also show the curve of the relationship between percentage of the iris used and the accuracy rate . The system of iris recognition is mainly formed of three parts: pretreatment, characteristic extraction, match and recognition. At last the results and conclusions of the paper are pointed out.
