With the development of Internet,it is currently a hot research that trengthen the building of an experimental environment,use the simulation technology to solve network robustness, maintainability and transmission reliability etc. Network simulation is an important method to research the performance of the network,analyze the system, design and implement the network.With the rapid development of computer networks,the size of topology for simulation grows to a very large scale.For the limit of hardware,the large scale networks will difficultly be simulated . The method of parallel/distributed network simulation has enabled the realization of large-scale network simulation for the veracity and validity.Now,PDNS(Parallel and Distributed Network Simulator) based on NS has better application and foreground.So the performance of PDNS becomes also the research focus of network simulation.Now, Distributed network simulation is mostly in the heterogeneous environment. But if we are to conduct a large-scale network simulation, homogeneous environment can not far satisfy requirements. So We must take into account the heterogeneous environment for the conduct of large-scale network simulation , and the key of parallel network simulation is namely time synchronization, this is also a key to ensure the correctness of simulation result. The paper analyses PDNS conservative synchronization mechanism, and constructs the performance estimation model based on heterogeneous environment. First, we analyse the performance factors of parallel simulation(workload balance,communication cost and time window of lookahead) based on PDES(Parallel Distribute Event Simulation) and experiments; Second, modify the source code of PDNS, have some standard experiments of PDNS in the two conservative synchronization mechanism operated separately, dispose the experiment data, and elicit performance analysis of the major factors affecting the PDNS conservative synchronization mechanism trend and the impact of the degree. Finally, based on PDNS conservative synchronization mechanism and its main factors affecting the performance, and take into account basic hardware configuration and Application specific parameters set, a performance estimation model Based on heterogeneous environment PDNS conservative synchronization mechanism is drawn to predict the performance of parallel network simulation Within certain error.
