With rapid development of scientific technologies and improvement of people living level, robot are extensively applied in many fields besides manufacturing, and service robot is one field holding capacious future. Navigation technology is one of the key technologies in realizing robot intelligence. Navigation system design is mainly aiming at minimizing people intervention when robot moving purposely, fulfilling special tasks, and executing special operation.Firstly, the status quo and researching methods of the mobile robots navigation system are elaborated and summarized. Secondly, navigation system of mobile robot is mainly designed, including the changing and customizing of work environment of navigation system, the whole hardware platform of navigation system and work flow design. Thirdly, part of navigation function system is discussed, including hardware design and software design of doorplate number recognition system. Software design is analyzed by the point of view of software engineering, including requirement analysis, preliminary design and detailed design. Fourthly, the design and realization of doorplate recognition system based on PC is presented, including module design of algorithms, realization of algorithms and testing. In the section of doorplate number recognition, doorplate number recognition is presented by wavelet neural network based on BP. Fifthly, the design and realization of doorplate recognition system based on DM642 is presented, including program migration from PC to DSP, program optimization on DM642 platform. Finally, the work of this paper is summarized, and some future research suggestions are addressed.
