At present, with the tremendous development of the computer network echnology and the commumcation technology as well as thorough and popular application of multimedia, voice over IP has become a popular research topic of Internet application. The Session Initiation Protocol is a signaling protocol developed by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). It is now gradually becoming the critical protocol of Softswitch because of the advantage of degree of open, extension and connection with Internet.P2P (Peer to Peer) technology breaks the formal C/S based mode of business, It arose people's interest in researching and using in large scale, because it inherently has high scalability, robustness, fault tolerance, non-centralized server and self-organized.How to combine these two technoligies together and make use of their advantages is an important goal for many research institutes. By analyzing and researching the P2P technology and SIP protocol, in this paper, a model of a SIP- P2P voice over IP system has been designed. It extends the SIP protocol in order to support the P2P , using the Chord node searching arithmetic. And the thesis makes a research on the node register, resource location in detail.
