With the increasing quantity of visiting the database by the network applications, the database management system (DBMS) has drawn more attention to itself. The research of calculating independently has solved the problem of the management in DBMS's inside resource, but couldn't deal with the problem of the workload outside. Different workload has different commercial value; the performance of workload with important commercial value should be satisfied with priority. This paper has made a research in the workload adaptation architecture for DBMS and proposed an improved frame of workload adaptation for database. The experiment result indicates that has this frame has an effect in improving user's satisfaction.Our research based on the model of the workload adaptation architecture which has been proposed by Professor Bao-ning Niu has added the part of the knowledge base to it and proposed the improved self-adaptive of workload frame called WAAD (Workload Adaptation Architecture for DBMS) . By designing and complete the part of the knowledge base, this paper has joined it to the self-adaptive of workload frame which would enhance the accuracy in predicting the performance of the self-adaptive of workload for database.In addition, this paper has also designed the software to the improved workload adaptation frame through assuring the vector of workload characteristics, the decision knowledge base of workload and the structure of the queuing algorithm of workload, it has accomplished a workload adaptation frame. We also has simulated and experienced at this software. The experimental result indicates that this frame plays a role in controlling and managing workload.The meaning in which the thesis studies lies is that the workload adaptation for database is the urgent need of the present network calculating. Also, it is an important way which improving service quality and lowing the costs of enterprises. Because real with success or failure for enterprise. The workload adaptation for database has wide prospects of application.Through our in-depth research gradually, and through experiments related technology demonstration, our study results will be widely used in all kinds of large-scale database management systems, so as to the significance of the study lies in the horizontal expansion of the database server. The hardware conditions are limited, increase hardware utilization, and reduce hardware and labor costs.Actually speaking, this paper has mainly done the work in the following areas:First, this paper proposed a new framework WAAD that improved the basic framework of Workload Adaptation designed by Professor Niu. Secondly, this paper build the software simulation for WAAD, the software set up the experiment environment for WAAD, which has been improved in real-time, accuracy and robustness.Finally, WAAD has been tested. The experimental result indicates that this frame would have the effect of enhancing the satisfaction of users.
