In recent years, multi-view video coding technique has become more and more popular because of its wide variety of future interactive multimedia applications such as 3D television, free-viewpoint television, surveillance and video conference. Interactivity is the main characteristic of multi-view system which allows users to choose some view or panoramic 3D information. Due to the large data volume, the hot research topic of multi-view video coding technique is how to efficiently compress multi-view videos. In addition, robust video delivery via error-prone networks is an important application, which can be effectively dealt with using error concealment techniques. Error concealment has been widely exploited at the decoder side of traditional single view coding systems. However, few works have been reported on the error control of multi-view video coding. Therefore, to develop a more robust multi-view video delivery, this paper carries on the research of error concealment process on multi-view video coding, and proposes a novel error concealment technique for multi-view video coding.Firstly,the basic knowledge of multi-view video coding techniques is introduced in this paper. Inter-view prediction is pointed out as the key technique in multi-view video coding and is analyzed in detail. Then this paper proposes a prediction structure of two-view based multi-view video coding for carrying on the research of multi-view error concealment.Then, this paper reviews the techniques of error control and concealment. These techniques are described in three categories according to the roles that the encoder and decoder play in the underlying approaches. This paper also point out that error concealment techniques are suitable for multi-view error control, because they don't need a certain amount of redundancy and high delay.A novel error concealment method is proposed in this paper for multi-view video coding to address the challenging problem of adaptively combining inter-view correlation, temporal correlation and spatial correlation. First, the disparity vectors of the lost macroblocks'neighboring macroblocks are used to recover the lost or erroneously received motion or disparity vectors. Then this paper proposes a novel error concealment method based on overlapped block motion and disparity compensation, whose weights are determined by the side match criterion and viewpoints. Simulation results show that the subjective and objective performances of the proposed technique are both superior to those of conventional temporal error concealment methods for multi-view video coding.Finally, this paper proposes an error control technique based on global disparity vector for multi-view video coding. A global disparity vector model is proposed firstly. Then this paper proposes an inter-view error concealment mode based on the global disparity vector model for inter-view error concealment technique. Simulation results show that the proposed technique indeed disentomb the inter-view correlation and improve the performance of error concealment technique for multi-view video coding.
