Along with the improvement of safety awareness among the people,application of video surveillance system has soared in the area such as banking,transportation, industrial production and the security sector.On the other hand,embedded system (Embedded System),according to virtue of their low power consumption and high performance,has become one of the focuses of today's IT industry.So,combining these two aspects and developing digital monitoring system based on embedded system has become a hot topic in embedded system area.Additionally,compared to traditional monitoring systems,embedded digital control system owns the ability of high reliability,low power consumption,network convenience,and low cost advantages, which make it more applicable to industrial control,civilian and banks,government departments Security System.In order to design Video Monitoring System,we should employ quite a few embedded system technologies such as operating systems,visualization graphical user interface,network transmission,and video coding.In this paper,the hardware platform is based on OMAP5910-based development board.Aiming to mobile communications market,TI's OMAP5910 which have a dual-core architecture offers quality of both high-performance and low-power.The dual-core architecture provides benefits of both DSP and ARM technologies.ARM core is TI's enhanced ARM9.And, with this rich interface and high-performance ARM core,system development board can fully meet the needs of the overall development of the control requirements.DSP core is TI's low-power DSP C55X which is very suitable for image coding functions according to its special DSP framework.For software platforms,the OS is embedded LINUX witch gradually becomes the mainstream operating system in embedded development.Embedded LINUX can be used with multiple platforms,and is free software source code.And what's more,it owns strong support of network and great resource of software.Visual user graphical user interface is developed with well-known QT/E system development.QT series produced by the Norwegian company TrollTech is a cross-platform C++ graphical user interface library.It owns powerful features and also good portability.Additionally many of X Windows software based on QT can be very easily ported to the embedded version.This paper focuses on overall development of video surveillance system,and contains much detail study of the overall system development process.Firstly,an introduction of hardware and software platform is employed in this paper.After that, cross-compiler environment is established,and also the environment need by application software.On the basis of the above-mentioned development,we developed GUI of the system,video acquisition and display module,and modify the driver because of some lack.And then I explain how to develop driver of touch screen for embedded LINUX and summarize some general experience for driver developing. Finally,we code the raw video stream with H.264 under analyzing of coder/decoder available.
