Recently, the research on the 3D reconstruction of the medical images is very hot. It can be widely used for the diagnoses, the planning and simulating of surgery, the education of anatomy and so on. Since the field of the research on the medical 3D reconstruction is very wide, this paper will be focused on the method and the algorithm of the medical 3D reconstruction.First of all, some issues about the medical 3D reconstruction are introduced in this paper, and then two kinds of rendering methods including surface rendering and volume rendering are discussed and compared as well. Second, the Marching Cubes algorithm and the reason of the ambiguity are analyzed, and then the method to avoid the ambiguity is discussed as well. Third, an improved algorithm is given in this paper. It uses triangle collapse, can simplify mesh with distance-weighted quadric error matrix, which the error matrix is weighted by the distance from viewpoint to mesh vertex. When it is used in the simplification of medical image 3D model with millions of triangles, and good results are acquired. Forth, the Ray Casting algorithm is introduced and its accelerated algorithm is studied as well. Then the improved algorithm of the Ray Casting is analyzed by two ways: the segmentation of the Volume Data and the function of transform.At last, after studying the same software such as 3DMed, a primary system of the Medical Images 3D Reconstruction is designed by MITK and VC++. It included some elementary functions as follows: data reading , image pre-processing , measurement, etc .
