In rich-scattering environments the use of multiple antenna systems provides an enormous increase in spectral efficiency compared to single antenna systems. A Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system that exploits this potential is Vertical Bell Labs Layered Space-Time (V-BLAST) architecture. In this dissertation, the research work focus on the detection algorithms of V-BLAST. The error performance of Maximum Likelihood (ML) receiver affected by correlated fading and channel estimation error in V-BLAST architecture is analyzed. The primary work and contributions can be summarized as follow:Firstly, the MIMO systems model is simply introduced and channel capacity of MIMO systems based on the information theory is analyzed. The detection algorithms of V–BLAST including MAP, ML, ZF, MMSE, QR and SPD are discussed. The analysis and comparison of these algorithms are given by computer simulation.Secondly, with perfect and imperfect channel state information (CSI), the performance of V-BLAST over identically distributed (i.i.d) and correlated Rayleigh fading channel is investigated separately. In the same condition, the exact expressions for pairwise error probability (PEP) of maximum likelihood (ML) receiver are derived based on the statistical property of squared Euclidean distance. The high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) approximate expressions of the PEP are also derived and used to quantitatively analyze the loss of the diversity order and the penalty of SNR.Finally, OFDM system and MIMO-OFDM system model are simply introduced. Channel estimation algorithms based on pilot symbol for frequency-selective OFDM system over the TU model of COST 207 are especially analyzed and validated. The exact expressions for PEP and maximum achievable diversity of MIMO-OFDM over arbitrary spatial fading channel are given.
