The Research And Improvement Of Ad Hoc Multi-path Source Routing Protocol

The Ad Hoc network is a self-organized wireless mobile network without any infrastructure. It is receiving an increasing attention due to its flexibility and utility. For the limit of the bandwidth and energy of the Ad Hoc, how to balance the payload and improve the validity of the routing has become the main targets of the evaluating the routing protocol performance. Among Ad Hoc routing protocols, one named DSR(Dynamic Source Routing) has a better performance than others, and many multi-path routing protocols are based on it. MSR(Multi-path Source Routing) is one of them using the conception of multi-path to gain the targets we involved above.In this thesis, we introduced the Ad Hoc network and its routing protocols at first, and we also introduced the classify of Ad Hoc routing protocols and some typicals. Then we described the definition and conceptions of multi-path routing, especially we emphasized on the MSR protocols.We presented IMSR (Improved Multi-path Source Routing) to reduce routing overheads and increase the reliability of on-demand routing by three improvements: (1)Obtain the independent paths on destination nodes.(2) Restrict the number of paths.(3) Discover new paths before all paths break off. And we evaluated its rationality in probability models of routing period.At last, Simulations demonstrated that IMSR has three features:(l) In light-load situations, IMSR can reach the performance of single-path DSR protocol.(2) In heavy-load situations, IMSR is much better than MSR.(3) In more challenging situations of high mobility, IMSR can improve the performance more significantly. So IMSR is an efficient multi-path protocol in Ad Hoc networks.
