Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is the effective multiple carrier modulation technique, which can well cope with highly dispersive multimedia transmission with high spectra utilization which has been considered as one of main technologies for next generation wireless broad-band communication. In an OFDM transmission system, timing synchronization and frequency offset estimation (FOE) are essential inner receiver functions. The inaccurate synchronization will cause inter-symbol interference and inter-carrier interference which will cause serious system performance loss. In order to combat this deficiency, in this paper, a novel training signals based joint frame synchronization and frequency offset estimation scheme was proposed.Firstly, this paper analyzed the effect of timing synchronization and frequency carrier offset for OFDM system. Then, the classical synchronization algorithms including cyclic prefix based and training sequence based have been introduced. After compared the merit and shortcoming of different algorithms, the joint frame synchronization and frequency offset estimation scheme was proposed. One good performance training sequence has been designed as the base of our joint algorithm. The symbol timing and frequency estimation are executed in time domain and frequency domain by auto/correlation and peak value detection. The whole scheme has been proposed as two steps: Course and Fine timing synchronization, Fractional and Integer frequency estimation. It is can reduce the complexity and improve accurate where resolved classical algorithms flat roof effect in peak detection and confliction of precision and range in frequency.After that, the OFDM system inner receiver design has been proposed based on the joint detection scheme. The whole design implementation and optimization on TI-TMS320C6416 DSP platform has been introduced.Finally, the joint algorithm and inner receiver design has been evaluated.
