With the development of socialization big production and the progress of science and technology, the modern equipment structure is more and more complex, the function is more and more consummates, and the automaticity is more and more high. Moreover the equipment develops an obvious tendency, that is faces unceasingly large-scale, high speed, strong carries, the continuous working and the automated direction develops. Any equipment from the design, installment has many links, and any bias could causes the equipment to be congenitally deficient; creates moves in spite of one's illness. In the process, the equipment may in various environment, its interior could receives the strength, the heat, the friction, the electricity magnetic interference, the corrosion, the electrolysis, the oxidation and so on.Many kinds of physics, chemical action could causes its performance deterioration, will causes the production system disorder, the equipment to suffer the loss, even shuts down on all fronts, meanwhile could destroys the environment, endangers the personal safety, brings seriously, the disastrous accident, and what is more creates the social problem. Research on fault diagnosis for power plant fan based on rough sets was the recent years hot topic. Its core thought is data mining and knowledge discovery function based on rough sets theory, carries on the analysis to fan movement monitor data, obtains policy-making and running status, breakdown diagnosis, overhaul suggestion expert decision systems. This paper is precisely centers on this kind of subject to launch the research work. The topic research obtained Shanxi Province natural sciences fund project (20051037), Taiyuan University of Science and Technology School science and technology development fund subsidization project (190-12901244) subsidization.This paper has given the specify to the topic related background, thoroughly studied rough sets theory and the fans breakdown diagnosis theories, as well as their present situation and the development in this foundation which the topic content involved, And has made the proof to two system similarities. In research, the paper has analyzed the rough sets theory basic concept, the mentality, the idea, in particular the rough sets theory in attribute reduction aspect and it's application, the paper for the first time proposed a new rough sets theory regular reduction, and has confirmed new regular validity through the experiment. Through summarizes predecessor's research work fully,carries on the innovation and in the transformation foundation to the correlation technology, the paper proposed one kind system model, and made the experimental analysis to the model, the result shows shows that the model is feasible and effective.The paper finally summarized entire research work, and to have made the forecast to this topic next possible research direction.
