Human body center is one of the most important indicators of the human body. It can reflect the mass of different parts of the body. It not only plays an important role in the daily life. But also keep close relative with sports. It can reflect the sports ability. So the measurement of this indicator is very significant in athlete selecting, sports training, new action invention, health and sports researching fields. The traditional methods to measure human body center using one or two dimensions force platform can't satisfy human's requirements now. Modern instrument based on electronic sensor and computer is widely accepted for its'rapidity and accuracy. But the disadvantages of these instruments are obvious. Some of them are single-functional, the others are too big to move.This study analyzed all the traditional methods to measure human body center in detail and improved the current instruments, and then launched a new foldable and multi-functional model. The new instrument is consisted of main part, assistant part and 4 affiliate boards. It can be easily folded to a small volume for transport. There are four sensors under the main part of the device. The main part can use alone. It can measure the human body center of standing and sitting postures. It can also compute the performance of body balance using the"position-time"curve. One side of the assistant part of the device can be connected to the main part. The other side is supported by a common fulcrum without sensor. The purpose of the assistant part is to lengthen the size of the force platform. With the assistant part, the instrument can be used to measure the human body center of the lie down posture. The affiliate board can be inserted to the main part and the assistant part. It can widen the size of the force platform, and make it probable to record the dynamic human body center when hands and legs moving.This study designed a set of software for the new device. This software contain an interface level between the low level hardware and the high level application. When the sensor or the A/D card changes. It just needs to change the configuration of the interface level, and lets the application alone. The interface level makes the application level keep independent with the hardware. In the aspect of measuring indicators, this software optimize several indicators as wrapping area, dominant moving direction and degree, expand indicators as optimized ellipse, swing period. In the aspect of storage, this software not only provide a file format of binary but also provide a file format of the popular XML. The XML file format can be read by both computer and people. We also designed a handy GUI using VC++ 6.0. Users can see the change of the human body center instantly, and get the statistics easily.We tested the new instrument carefully. The results showed that the system is stable and reliable. The inaccuracy of width direction is less than 1 mm. The inaccuracy of length direction is less than 3 mm. It can satisfy the demands of measuring human body center of different postures. It can be widely used in sports, physical education, athlete selecting, body status monitoring and health recovering fields.At last we launched a series of studies using the new apparatus, explored some problems of the human body center and the body balance, and get some useful conclusions.
