The Method Of Color Image Segmentation Based On Color Clustering And Region Growing

Image segmentation is the basic and important technology in Image Engineering. It is a first task of and image analysis process because all the subsequent tasks rely heavily on the quality of the segmentation. In recent years with the development of technologies, such as machine vision, pattern recognition and content-based image retrieve etc, and the wide use of color images, image segmentation, especially color image segmentation, has played a more and more important role.Since the digital image processing come out soon, attracted a lot of researchers made great efforts, in different areas has also made great progress and achievements, it is now also has been working to develop new potential methods to achieve a more universal and perfect segmentation results. At present, various issues have been raised against many different image segmentation algorithm, some have made good results. However, image segmentation with certain degree of difficulty and complexity, due to their own reasons, so far there is not a common segmentation method, nor the existence of a separate judge the success of the objective criteria, it is necessary for us to study new methods.In summary, Image segmentation of the research is very academic value and practical significance. But most of the past research based on monochrome image segmentation. With the improvement of computer processing speed, the rapid development of the Internet and the needs to real life, color image segmentation causes more concern. Therefore, this passage choose color image as the research objective.The primary tasks of the paper are as follows: Firstly, the mainstream segmenting algorithms has been analyzed, classified and summarized. Then we compared the advantages and disadvantages of them. Secondly, the color spaces which have recently appeared in color image segmentation field have been analyzed and summarized, then we concluded the characteristics of them when used in segmentation. At last, in the paper, the color image segmentation algorithm has been designed for the color image. In order to complete the segmentation of the color image, the system is divided into the color space change, color cluster phase and the region-growing phase. Experiments show that this method has better segmentation performance.
