The Dual-channel System is designed and developed for realizing remote, real-time and on-line monitoring of the power equipment's visible image and infrared temperature information. The image registration algorithm in image processing module of the system is researched. The general scheme of system with infrared sensor and visible light CCD sensor as the key devices has been designed according to the actual demand of on-line monitoring for power equipment in substation. The concrete hardware composition of equipment monitoring system is given and its working principle is described. Server-side software and client-side software are developed. Furthermore, this paper has probed into image registration algorithm for the system. It was based on SIFT descriptors of edges in the image. It has also been connected with gradient mirroring method. Remote, real-time and on-line dual-channel image monitoring for power equipment has been achieved, so external and overheating problem of equipment can be discoverable in time. On-site experimental operation shows that it is steady and reliable.
