MIMO-OFDM system can take full advantages of both MIMO and OFDM, which can increase data transmission rate for several times and simultaneously overcome intersymbol interference and multipath fading of wireless channel. Signal detection can directly influence the complexity and performance of a MIMO-OFDM system. However, the signal detection algorithm is hard to gain both low computational complexity and high performance.The principle of MIMO-OFDM is presented in this paper. And several kinds of signal detection algorithms are fully discussed, such as zero-forcing, minimum mean-square error, maximum likelihood, V-BLAST, sphere decoding and lattice reduction. Simulations are taken to verify and compare the performance of each algorithm. QR decomposition algorithm and its relative algorithm named QRDM are focused on. An improved algorithm is given to reduce the high computational complexity of QRDM when high performance is demanded. The results of simulation show that the improved algorithm can achieve a high performance based on a low complexity.
