Space-time codes based on MIMO combined channel coding, modulation and signal processing at receive terminal, which can make full use of the fading multi-path in the wireless communication systems so as to improve the capacity of the communication system and spectral utilization ratio at double in case of not increasing bandwidth. The detection algorithm of Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time (BLAST) coding is an important part which affects the performance of the system. Therefore this paper describes the principle of space-time code, and the main three space-time code schemes, including its design thought and encoding and decoding algorithms. Specially the detection algorithms of Layered Space-Time Code is studied, however, the complexity of the algorithm made a Exponential growth as the increase of antennas and modulation Constellation points. To reduce its complexity of the algorithm, we introduce the Genetic Algorithm (GA) based Layered Space-Time Maximum Likelihood decoding (ML) algorithm, optimize the detection algorithm based on standard genetic algorithm, and add MMSE Optimization individual to the Initial population, with Implementing the adaptive mutation operation, so that the computational complexity is reduced. Simulation results show that the proposed system performs well.
