With the rapid development of multimedia and network techniques, usage of images is booming daily. To find a proficient way of managing, processing and retrieving image resource is a more and more important subject, and Content-Based Image Retrieval has become a current research focus.On the other hand, with the improvement of mobile devices, applications and communication techniques, a mobile phone is now an information-sharing platform instead of just a telephony device. As a result, image is currently an indispensable part in mobile multimedia service. The design of CBIR systems needs algorithms dedicated to specific circumstances. According to this requirement, research and development of a CBIR application system on mobile platform is investigated in this thesis.The retrieval methods of edge and color features are analyzed in detail. Then an improved edge-detecting algorithm based on Prewitt and a color feature extracting algorithm based on non-linear HSV model quantization are put forward. The algorithms show good effects and performance.Based on the algorithms this thesis presents an image retrieval system with the integrated utilization of both edge and color characters, and introduces the research and implementation of the system structure and design and development of several important modules. Two strategies of improving information security of user identification and copyright protection separately are also raised.
