The world is striding forward to an information society, with the explosive development of telephone network, Internet, ISDN, and CATV network. It is time to build information highway. The optical fiber has been more and more widely used in the world because of its many merits such as great communication capacity, long transmission distance, high transmission quality,anti-interference andcorrosion-proof etc. The theoretics about the optical fiber strength has been explained and a summary to some main factors about the drawing technology which influence on the fiber strength has been made. Finally, some good ways of ensuring the fiber strength have been brought forward. The effects of high drawing speed on the optical fiber performances have been mainly analyzed, The analytic results show that the drawing speed can increase from 1000m/min to 1100m/min without problem by controlling the drawing technological parameters.With the increasing of the capacity of optical fiber communication system, polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in fiber has been a serious limit factor. The paper gives a brief description of its origin. Then we emphatically desoribe the theory with which we reduce PMD by installing Fiber Spinning Unit during drawingand making the fiber revolve. After that, we test the fiber PMD, give the results, and analyse the results.
