With the rapid development of mobile communication technology, the standards and technology of Third-generation mobile communications are getting more and more maturely. Many companies are deploying and developing 3G network in global area. For the purpose of enhancing the core competitiveness, mobile communication operators have to supply rich, highly personalized and differentiated businesses to users relying on the advantages of high-bandwidth technology in 3G network. Multimedia Color Icon is a new attractive value-added business in mobile domain; it is probably to be a hot point of 3G application.Based on the experience of PRBT, the in-depth research of application in IMS network and the analysis of specifications, this thesis brings forward a blue print of MCI platform and the implementation of its core modules. This thesis mainly focuses on following areas:First, this thesis introduces the conception of IMS network and its session control. And it describes SIP/SDP which are the important protocols in IMS application.Second, this thesis introduces the conception of MCI(Multimedia Color Icon).And it analyzes the specifications of MCI in IMS domain which are made by China Telecom Company and China Mobile Company.Third, this thesis analyzes the structure and functions of MCI platform. Based on detailed analysis of the signal flow and the implement mode of MCI, this thesis brings forward the design blue print of the MCI system.Firth, due to the design blue print, this thesis gives a concrete software implementation. And for the purpose of solving potential problems induced by large visit scale to a single server, the MCI platform implements the load-balance and redundant configuration by using the cluster technology.Fifth, this thesis designs two ways to test the functions and carrying capacity of the MCI platform. The test results show that the platform satisfies the requirements in function, reliability and stability.The MCI platform has passed the integrated test in an IMS testing environment deployed by Guangzhou Telecom Institute. According to the development of PRBT, it can be seen that the 3G MCI business in IMS domain will have a brilliant future.
