Optical communication have evolved as the most important transmission mode in almost all information networks, such as telecommunication network, data network, cable television network and optical internet. With ever-increasing demand of transmission service, an obvious trend in optical communication research is to All-optical Switching Networks. As a hopeful solution of the O/E & E/O bottleneck, optical packet switching (OPS) attracts increasing attention. This dissertation focused on the header extraction and the optical packet replication which are key problems in optical packet switching, and the main works are as follows:1. A scheme proposed of optical header extraction in document is analyzed and tested by experiments, which is based on TOAD. And then, modification is made to the scheme with substituting a EDFA for the SOA in TOAD. Analysis and experiments prove the feasibility of the modification.2. A new scheme of optical signal replication is proposed with modified optical fiber ring cavity resonator, and analyzed and tested by experiments. Experimental results shows the scheme is verified3. The factors are analyzed theoretically which lower the quality of the replication output and the output extinction ratio. The relationship is discussed between output extinction ratio and input extinction ratio. The relationship is analyzed mathematically between coupling ratio and extinction ratio.
