In some large-scale complex circuit systems, the fault propagation caused by invalidation or fault of one or a few sub-circuits may invalidate or collapse the entire circuit system because of coupling among circuits, and the process of circuit fault propagation has the characteristics of certain dynamic, complexity and uncertainty. The model of circuit fault based on Cellular Automata (CA) is established by dividing the circuit system into many sub-circuits, and then the dynamic propagation of circuit fault is studied according to the evolving rules. The main contents and innovations are as follows:Based on CA, a model of circuit fault propagation in large-scale circuit has been proposed. In the simulating process of fault propagation, we have analyzed the influence of fault disturbance on fault scale, and the influence of coupling degrees on fault scale, as well as the issue of fault propagation velocity etc. A probability model of circuit fault propagation has been proposed based on CA. In this model, the probability of fault propagation is introduced to study the possibility of fault propagation among sub-circuits, and the influence of fault propagation probability and fault disturbance on fault scale is illustrated by analyzing the process of fault propagation probability in complex circuit. The model of circuit fault propagation based on CA has been applied into grid circuit, in which CA fault model has been studied, and the process of fault propagation has been illustrated according to the evolving rules, the effectiveness of this model has been validated by simulating results as well.System fault scale will tend to steady eventually; and the stronger fault disturbance, the more final fault scale which won't increase untill global fault caused by that fault disturbance intensity exceeds a certain threshold. The studies of coupling and fault propagation propability suggest that smaller threshold of fault disturbance is needed in circuit system with more coupling degree and fault propagation tightness.
