Network congestion has become an important issue with the rapid development of the Internet. The goal of congestion control is to ensure gaining certain throughout to increase the use of bandwidth, to avoid congestion collapse by taking certain control mechanism.Network Simulation is a widely-used way for designing network and evaluating the performance of network, and validating the effectiveness of congestion control algrithms.Simulation is playing the more and more important role in designing modern telecommunication network due to increasing of complexity, scale of networks.Active queue management algorithm is the keystone on network research about congestion control in recent years. For improving the AQM algorithms and design new algorithms, researchers need to study the AQM deeply. NS2(Network Simulator Version 2) as open source software, it lacks the ability to simulate some improved algorithms and latest developed algorithms. This leads to the requirement of the functional extension of the current version. This paper focuses on the description of the extension principle and implementation details of NS2 and develops an enhanced RED method——PRED (Packetsize on Random Early Detection) in NS2 2.28 ,which forcus on the deficiency of RED algorithm in package manage. The main goal of PRED algorithm is to congestion avoidance by calculate the dropping probability with two parameters: Pavg is the size of average packets and Pcur is the size of incoming packet. And also analysis the performance of RED,Drop Tail and PRED about network thoughput, dropped packet ratio and jitter.
