Research Into Complex Event Processing's Application In Distributed Workflow Monitoring

Workflow technology is an important computer technology for implementing the automatic management of enterprise's process. With the progress of networked computing technologies, the scope of enterprise becomes more and more huge. Then the decentralization of the enterprise physical position and decision-making process becomes more obvious. These impel the development of distributed workflow technology. How to monitor the execution of distributed workflow system, and how to pick up user's concerned information more smartly from distributed enterprise resources bring forward the higher requirement to workflow monitoring tool.Complex event processing is a new technology for extracting information from distributed message-based systems. This technology separates the events into layers according to the relationship and maps of events. Then users can extract information from the concerned layer which is authorized to them. This paper makes use of the complex event processing technology's advantage in extracting information from distributed system. We research the method of complex event processing and analyze its application in distributed workflow monitoring.This paper first introduces the origin of workflow, the state of workflow monitoring and the significance of this research. In chapter two, we explain basic knowledge of workflow, the architecture, workflow reference model introduced by WfMC, modeling technology and so on. Then, we introduce the character of distributed workflow system, analyze the distributed workflow technology and introduce the function of workflow monitoring.In chapter three, we first introduce the complex event processing technology. Then we research the method of complex event processing in workflow monitoring basing on defining the concept and formula of events. By the definition and detection of event blocks, we translate the complex event to event hierarchy tree. Then complete the complex event processing. According to the character of complex event processing technology, in chapter four, we introduce the concept and basic model of role-based access control. Then we research its application in workflow's event monitoring.In chapter five, we compare event-based distributed workflow with the traditional distributed workflow. Then we analyze the advantage of event-based distributed workflow management system and the benefit of its application in monitoring. Furthermore, we research the function and implement technologies of monitoring system. Finally we explain how to deal with the exception events.
