Pointer instrument, which has large numbers of types and huge quantity, is prevalently used in the manufacture process. At present, the verification to the instrument basically adopts human observation method. Some anthropogenic factors influents the accuracy and efficiency of verification. In order to improve those problems, this paper makes a study on the automatic verification technique of pointer instrument.Based on digital image processing technology, this paper mainly focuses on how to automatically recognize the indicating value of instrument pointer, and researches and develops the automatic verification technique of pointer instrument. Through the designs of motion control driving system and feedback control, the study realizes the verification system for closed-loop motion control, and reaches the accuracy requirements of the high-precision instrument verification from hardware. Through the image filtering technique, image threshold segmentation algorithm, dial image edge detection algorithm, instrument dial image thinning and recognition for the features of the instrument pointer and other algorithm etc., it realizes automatic recognition for the indication of the instrument pointer. Finally, through the analysis of the experimental data and error analysis and the analysis and calculation of the sources of system error, it makes a estimate to the accuracy of verification system. Take dial indicator as an example to make the analysis. Some methods of digital image processing are summarized by programming and processing of computer, which provide references for all kinds of pointer instruments on the developments of automatic verification technique, video-image acquisition technique, and applications of digital image processing techniqueAutomatic verification system of pointer instrument is a opto-electrical integrated and intelligent instrument. The adoption of computer image recognition technique prevents man-made reading in the verification, which greatly improves the efficiency of verification. Moreover, automation and intelligence are achieved in the verification process. The experiment proves that this method of verification will has a broad market because of its high accuracy, recognition capability and convenient operation.
