Visual process simulation technology is a synthesized study established in recent decades, and is getting further development with the support and application of system simulation, visualization and database technologies. Information visualization is an important research area in visualization technologies, and it is also an effective method for processing large-scale data and improving human's ability of cognition, especially suitable for multi-resolution material flow visualization and cognition amplification dealing with large-scale abstract data in visual simulation for process industry.With process industry as the production background, this thesis introduces the development of Information Visualization Platform of intelligent plant system, and the classification of platform visualization tasks is also discussed. Information Visualization Platform demonstrates the material flow through visualization interface. Users can examine the static relationship between production devices or dynamic production status during a specific period, and they can make production orders to affect the simulation process in real time and interact with production objects in different operation management layers. The main works are as follows:1. A survey on industrial background of this research, basic concepts of visual process simulation technology and the applications is presented, and the contents of this thesis are also discussed.2. Basic concepts of information visualization technologies are introduced, and information visualization reference model and some classic information visualization algorithms are also described detailedly.3. The development background, system structure and design method of Information Visualization Platform are presented. The information visualization toolkit called yFiles and the database connection are also described, along with the design of Graphic User Interface (GUI) of the platform.4. The classification of platform visualization tasks is defined, and this definition includes assistant visualizations for both production decision-making and management decision-making. The visualization characteristics of these tasks are described as implementation reference of platform functions.5. The implementation principle and actual effects of some Information Visualization Platform tasks such as material flow relationship visualization, production process visualization, production order processing and multi-resolution information control and visualization are demonstrated. This research can help to instruct how to implement assistant visualization for production decision-making via information visualization technologies.6. The thesis is concluded with a summary and the questions which need further research in the future are also discussed.
