Resource acquisition and service access which are associated with all the network applications are the two mainstream applications on the Internet. In the existing Internet architecture, users can gain resources from Internet by the way of Uniform Resource Location (URL), which is based on the Domain Name System (DNS). Resources and Service are described by the URL subsection, while they are registerd and lookuped by the DNS whose essence is host-oriented. Under the circumstance of only knowing about the IP address of a host resolved by DNS, users can obtain resources easily, which are maintained thoroughly by hosts. Regarding with processing network resources, it can't satisfy many new application demands with its weak capability in resource description, slow update speed, complexity of configuration and so on. Increasing number of scholars has been working on the new name resolution system from different perspective. The job in this paper is a part of the national "973" Project: The basic Theory of the Universal trustworthy Network. The work mainly focuses on the implementation of name resolution mechanism in the Universal Network. Service identifier is introduced in the Universal Network, which is used as the unify description of network services. This paper aims at designing a service identifier resolution mechanism based on Distributed Hash Table(DHT) in the Universal Network, which can resolve service identifier into connect identifier to implement unified connection of network service. It's a name resolution mechanism which is able to lookup resources expediently in the Universal Network. The system has good capability in resource description, data mobility, system robustness, load balance which is a supplement to DNS. The key point of the new system is the design of name mapping server network, which is designed as a distributed Peer-to-Peer network in the paper. The structure of the paper is described as follow: Firstly, the foundational theories of the Universal Network and distributed Peer-to-Peer network are introduced. Secondly, the system model, general design and module partition is discussed, especially the main functions and specific implements of each module and their subunits with top-down approach. Finally, the network topology is described, on which we do coding and testing of the service identifier resolution system.
