is a sub-topic of national special research project《large-scale oil field and gas development》. The significance of this project is to carry out continuous and systematical technical researches of LWD equipment by assimilating foreign advanced technologies, and gradually form technological achievements with China's national intellectual property rights. The results will help us to construct technology platform which is supported by integrating mainstream equipment, form front edge technology in the drilling automation area through accumulation of scientific researches, and thereby fully enhance the core competitiveness of China's oil drilling, and gradually get rid of technology dependence from foreign companies.LWD system includes underground system and ground information processing system. The latter system takes charge of controlling underground sensors, and is named INSITE system.The main contributions of this paper are:1. Specified to Sperry-Sun's LWD system structure, this paper uses modularization methodology, applies black box testing technology and regression analysis, and decodes invisible LWD system bus protocol.2. Completed the development of INSITE simulation program, and passed effective verification. The simulation program can realize some parts of the functions of Sperry-Sun's INSITE software.3. This paper tested the functions of INSITE software and validated the protocol, andfinished tasks related to communication protocol and ground supporting software in the subject of . The achievements of this paper have passed test and check from relevant institutions and obtained high quality of comments.
