Conventional radio system depends on hardware much more,and have poor ability of accommodating different signals. The emergence of software radio changes the situation. The basic idea of software radio is to put the A/D (Analog to Digital) and D/A (Digital to Analog) converter as closely as possible to the antenna. The hardware is treated as basic platform in software radio, the radio function is more defined as software. Thus the mobile communication has good performance in generality and flexibility .It is more convenient to update. Due to the limitation of device level, it is impossible to sample RF signal in direct now. Thus we have to sample IF signal, and complete the design of IF module using DSP (Digital Signal Processing).This paper discusses the application of software radio for repeater. Firstly it expatiates on the theory of software radio, discussing Multi-rate Sampling, Digital UP/Down Converting (DUC/DDC), and several kinds of digital filters. Then on the basis of those, a scheme of the system is given, and the hardware circuit is built with appropriate chips. In succession, it discusses the program development flow in FPGA. Finally, the system is validated and the result is confirmed with system modeling tool simulink in MATLAB, and debugging results of the whole system are given.
