BaoSteel's collecting and distributing railway warehouse is still in a relatively backward manual-mechanical stage. Workers communicate mainly by mouth. They resolve the routing problems such as storage, move and retrieval independently according to intuition or experiences so that no satisfying solution can be gotten while wasting lots of human's effort. It's difficult for the enterprise to compete with the world-class steel industry with such a poor performance warehouse. This paper studies the scheduling problem of BaoSteel's railway warehouse. After analyzing the related business process, we intergrate the three main tasks - storage, move, retrieval together and build an asymmetric traveling salesman problem model. After careful comparison among several genenitic algorithms, partheno genetic algorithm based on sequential encoding was selected. The work chooses single-point gene-exchange operator, multi-point gene-exchange operator and single-point gene-shift operator all of which have good genetic performance. After introduced a better selection mechanism and given a high quality candidate set generating method through mimum 1-tree, it eventually builds a very high performance heuristic genetic algorithm. For the system archeitecture, the paper describes the distributed CORBA architecture and system data flow of the warehouse management system which adopts B/S design mode. In the end, internal system modules, external ERP interfaces and database tables are also introduced. The intelligent warehouse system successfully performs information, automatic and intelligent transformation on the warehouse via putting into inexpensive facilities. Saving human resources, reducing energy consumption, improving warehouse space usage and increasing work efficiency are all achieved. The whole warehouse performance gets enhanced.
