The transmission properties of plastic optical fiber in bending and the dispersion of plastic optical fiber were systematically analyzed in this paper.Loss and dispersion are the important transmission properties. The bend loss mechanism and the impact of mode coupling on dispersion were discussed. On the base of the theoretical analysis, the experimental researches on bend transmission loss and the effect of magnetic field on bend loss were done.The influences of mode coupling and numerical aperture on dispersion were simulated by computer.The theoretical analysis and the experimental results prove that the change of bend radius induces the changes of refractive index, numerical aperture and guided mode number, corresponding to the change of light intensity at output end, namely, bringing bend transmission loss.The effect of magnetic field has faint impact in bend loss.By means of analysis and simulation ,the researches on the effect of numerical aperture on mode dispersion are presented.On the basis of the research and the property of bend loss ,the range of proper-communicated step-index plastic optical fiber numerical aperture was proposed.
