With the rapid development of imaging technology, the modality medical images have been used widely in clinical diagnoses and surgical therapies. Integrating those images is helpful to improve the accuracy of clinical diagnoses and surgical therapies. Image registration is not only the problem should be solved firstly in image fusion technology, but also the key part of integration.This thesis mainly deals with MI based multimodal medical image registration methods. Firstly introduces the conception and process of registration. Then the major registration algorithms and categories are described. And then details the knowledge about MI and the affection of interpolation, outlier strategy and the theories about optimization algorithm. This paper adopts a new algorithm of medical image registration based on maximum of mutual information and edge correlative deviation. Use a new optimization algorithm which combined Powell and GA to search the best registration parameters. Experimental results show that this is an effective method of automatic registration which has preferred accuracy, high speed and better robust.
