Mobile IP technology is a new technology to resolve the mobile interconnection in the network layer. It is developed based on mobile communications and Internet technology, and still in the research phase. To be applied in the practical situation, there are many issues to be figured out, in which, the security is a key problem, and especially, the authentication and key agreement between communication entities are the base to solve the security issue.In this thesis, the accessing mechanism of mobile IP is summarized, then the authentication and key agreement technology are studied, the characteristics of authentication and key agreement of mobile IP are also studied, and three typical authentication protocols are analyzed. Based on these tasks and the mobile IP protocol, the design thought and principle of key agreement protocol for mobile IP is proposed. A mutual authentication and key agreement protocol for mobile node accessing foreign network and handoff between foreign network is designed, which is an integration of Diffie-Hellman key agreement technology based on ECC, Hash authentication technology and Hash chain authentication technology. The resist attack capability and efficiency of protocol are analyed qualitatively. At last, the protocol is analyzed by SVO logic analysis method; the network simulation model of the protocol in OPNET is established, and the validity of the protocol is confirmed by simulation.
